🛡️ What Coach J does with your data

Coach J stores your email so you can sign in with a one-time code. Study history — concepts, recall grades, streaks, XP, and focus time — is saved on this device and, when you are signed in, synced to your account (Supabase).

When you start a study session, the article text of the sections you select is sent to Google Gemini through Coach J’s backend so it can write a summary and grade your recall. The text and voice you submit are sent the same way.

Google does not use that content to improve its models. It may keep prompts and responses briefly to detect abuse.

Coach J sends usage analytics to PostHog (d.coachj.you): which actions you take, and the site and path of the page when a study session starts. The query string is not sent. Coach J does not sell your data.

1. Overview & Commitment

Welcome to Coach J. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy details what information we collect, process, and protect when you use the Coach J web extension and our website.

Our primary development tenet is that **your mind is your own**. We believe active learning progress, reading lists, and concept recall attempts should remain private. Coach J stores your learning data securely in the cloud, and we are committed to protecting it with industry-standard practices.

2. Data We Process & Collect

To provide our AI learning tools, we handle specific data categories. We distinguish between data processed in-memory client-side and data collected to manage services.

A. Account Email (OTP Sign-In)

To create and sign in to your account, we collect your email address and send a one-time password (OTP) to that address. We use your email only for authentication and account-related notices. We do not use a password, and we do not sell or share your email.

B. Page Content (On-Demand AI Concept Extraction)

A session does not start until you click "Start Learning". Coach J then reads the article you already have open and sends the text of the sections you select to Google Gemini through Coach J’s backend, so it can write a summary and grade your recall. Voice recordings are sent the same way for transcription.

C. Active Recall & Spaced Repetition Metrics

Concepts, recall grades, streaks, XP, focus time, and spaced-repetition records are saved on this device. When you are signed in, they are also synced to your account (Supabase). A daily free-use count is stored on your account to enforce usage limits. Sign-out does not delete the copy on this device.

D. Product Usage Analytics

Coach J sends usage analytics to PostHog (d.coachj.you): which actions you take, such as starting a session, submitting a recall, or seeing the paywall, and the site and path of the page when a study session starts. The query string is not sent. This website also records its own page views there. Coach J does not sell your data.

E. Subscription & License Information

If you purchase a Premium License, we collect payment confirmation data processed securely via Stripe. We do not store or see your credit card details. Stripe provides us with a transaction identifier and license email state to unlock premium daily AI limits inside the extension.

3. AI Providers & Data Guardrails

Summaries and grades are produced by Google Gemini through Coach J’s backend. The text and voice you submit are sent the same way.

  • What is sent: the article text of the sections you select, your recall answer, and voice audio when you dictate a recall.
  • When it is sent: only after you start a study session. The extension does not read a page until you click Start Learning.
  • Not used to improve Google’s models. On Coach J’s paid Gemini plan, Google does not use prompts or responses to improve its products. Google may log them for a limited time to detect abuse.

4. Cookies and Web Tracking

This website sends page views to PostHog (d.coachj.you). It does not sell your data, and it does not run advertising or retargeting.

5. Data Storage, Control, and Deletion

You maintain complete sovereignty over your data.

  • To delete your learning data, contact us at hello@coachj.you and we will permanently remove your records from our database upon request.
  • Uninstalling Coach J from your Chromium browser removes the local extension files. Your cloud-stored data can be deleted by contacting support.

6. GDPR & CCPA Compliance

Depending on your location, you hold legal rights regarding your data (e.g., right to access, transfer, correct, or erase records). Your learning progress and account data are stored in our Supabase database. You may request a copy, correction, or deletion of your data at any time by contacting our support team.

7. Children's Privacy

Our services are not structured for, nor aimed at, children under 13. If we discover a child under 13 has transmitted personal license data to us, we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes & Inquiries

We may revise this Privacy Policy to adapt to browser API rules or service refinements. The updated version will be marked with a new "Last Updated" timestamp at the top of this page.
